Postal Service by Choice
Edmond Document Solutions has created an Eddoc Weaver based solution for printing postal routing codes on mail pieces and sorting them according to specifications of Sandd, a Dutch postal service company. This 'in-house' solution enables customers of Sandd to easily implement their sorting rules and routing code on existing document streams.
Choosing between different postal services with Eddoc Weaver is based on business rules from the customer. The business rules only depend on the customer requirements, varying from simply routing everything to one postal service or applying complex rules based on weight, document type and content, and the contract with the postal service.
Benefits
- High savings on postage possible by choosing the most cost-effective postal service provider for your mail.
- Save time because print production is no longer held up by waiting for response files from Sandd.
- Retain confidentiality and security because no address files have to be transferred over the internet to add the routing codes. No internet connection is needed for your production environment.
- Achieve freedom for choosing the best postal service for your mail pieces. If needed, you can select conditionally and automatic the appropriate postal service even per individual mail piece.
How it works
The Sandd routing code and sorting order is based on the zip code and house number of the address. This information can be acquired in different ways.
- One possibility is to read the address from the page and distill the zip code and house number from it.
- If address information is available up front, this information can be passed along with the input documents. This can be as simple as supplying a comma separated file (csv).
The Sandd network table is queried locally with the zip code and house number to establish a routing code and sorting order. For reporting, the weight of each document is determined based on the paper types, sheet count and additional weight per mail piece; for the envelope and –optionally– physical attachments. Additionally, all mail
pieces will be counted. Mail pieces are sorted according to the Sandd sorting order and grouped in pallets, stacks and hand bundles. Then, the Sandd code wil be added to the page below the address. The resulting document stream is then saved as a print file together with a report file in XML that has to be transmitted to Sandd for planning the delivery routes.
Additional Opportunities
The features of Eddoc Weaver allow a versatile deployment of this solution. For instance, the following variations are possible with standard features:
- Generating address labels based on only a file with address information;
- Retrieving address information from a database instead of extracting it from the page;
- Combinations with other document workflows that can be created with Eddoc Weaver functionality; adding digital or physical inserts, printing OMR- and barcodes, setting paper types, etc.
Availability
This solution is available today for Eddoc Weaver 2.x and runs in a Windows, Solaris and Linux environment.
